Amsterdam (大都市, Amusuterudamu) is a Jōnin-level shinobi from Amegakure, as well as an original member of the village's organization, Akatsuki; he was present during the time of the village's civil war, participated in the overthrow of the Nidaime Amekage.
The events which transpired in Amsterdam's life prior to him joining the Akatsuki are relatively unknown thus far; however, he was able to learn the Iwagakure Kinjutsu from the eponymous village sometime beforehand, hinting at the possibility that he may have originated from it.
When he became a full member of the aforementioned organization during a low in the Nidaime Amekage's reign, Amsterdam was quick to establish himself as a valuable asset due to his Explosion Release techniques, most of which involving detonating clay. He and Kage Uchiha were known to have became good friends, though the majority of his interactions with others were unknown. When the civil war of Amegakure eventually did break out, he did what he could to assist his fellow revolutionaries, who were eventually successful in their goal, resulting in the incumbent Amekage's death, and the rise of Styx Uchiha to this seat of power. After the completion of the Akatsuki's task at the time, Amsterdam disappeared into obscurity for a period of time, before eventually resurfacing in Amegakure once more, and renewing his membership within the current incarnation of the Akatsuki.
During his time in the original Akatsuki, Amsterdam usually showed a cool and relaxed attitude, never losing his smirk even while fighting an intense battle. He also had something of a sadistic arsonist nature, rather he was not above enjoying a good fight, and often blew up his opponents in a very brutal fashion. Amsterdam's most distinctive trait which perseveres to the present time, however, is his love of art. He respects any form of it, even if it disagreed with his own. Amsterdam also has a habit of ending his sentences with nasal-like grunts (…うん, …un), roughly translated as "yeah" or "hm". Amsterdam also seems to respect the ideals of others, even going so far as to admiringly call them noble in certain cases.
Amsterdam refers to his explosive ninjutsu as art, usually seeing each bomb he makes to be a significant accomplishment. Unfortunately, Amsterdam's pride as an artist renders him simply unwilling to accept that anything could defeat it. This tends to lead to his abandonment of strategy during downhill battles, in favor of tactics that let him show off his art. He is still able to formally recognize stronger opponents, although sometimes he felt they are inartistic, and ends up despising the fact that he had been defeated by an "inferior artist".
Amsterdam's personality upon his return, however, was very different. He now displays a slightly more irritable and "over-the-top" behavior, as well as an overall less relaxed demeanor. He noted that he bears general disdain towards authority figures, though does not seem to be outwardly hostile towards them. When annoyed by one of his allies, he tends to attack them in a comedic fashion (e.g. blasting them with his explosive clay or strangling them with his legs). But in battle, Amsterdam puts his issues with others aside to work well with anyone, telling them to get away when he was about to do a more dangerous attack, or even using collaboration techniques often.
AppearanceAmsterdam is a fair-skinned man, with a slightly shorter-than-average height. He has slanted blue eyes and very long blond hair which he wears drawn into a half ponytail with the rest hanging down freely. The bang hanging over his left eye is what conceals his scope signifying that he is a long-range fighter, but, as shown in several of his fights over the years, it is not permanently attached to his face. He also has mouths in each of the palms of his hands which are used for molding his clay; under his cloak, he wears a utility belt with two bags where he carries all of his clay. Under his cloak, he wears a simple greyish shirt with mesh armour underneath, it along with pants, stirrups, and shinobi sandals. He wears a standard forehead protector of Amegakure, indicating to others that he is a shinobi of the village.
On the left side of his chest he has a large, stitched-up mouth for setting off his self-destruct technique. On his right index finger is his Akatsuki ring, which bears the kanji for blue or green (青, ao) and is teal in color.
