Rin Hōzuki (鬼灯 凛, Hōzuki Rin) is a Jōnin-level kunoichi from Kirigakure.
Born to a Hōzuki father and Uchiha mother, Rin led a generally comfortable childhood. She was enrolled in Kirigakure's Academy at age ten and graduated only a year later. However, she spent the next five years as a Genin before finally being promoted to Chūnin.
During her time as a Genin, Rin honed her skills in Suiton ninjutsu in conjunction with learning the Hōzuki's Hydrification Technique. It was also during these years that Rin discovered her affinity for the advanced chakra-nature, Hyōton.
As a Chūnin, the kunoichi would activate her dōjutsu, the Sharingan, for the first time. She has not yet trained extensively in the kekkei genkai and thus still only possesses three tomoe after years of it being active. It was around this time that she would be taken in by Rinoa Hatiri, her father having left and her mother eventually succumbing to illness.
Currently, Rin is the newest member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist and active Jōnin of Kirigakure no Sato.
Rin is a generally stoic person around superiors, often not speaking unless spoken to first. Around those she considers friends or non-threatening, however, she never stops talking. These clashing traits tend to make her confusing to be around.
In battle, she exudes overconfidence and tends to fight recklessly, preferring to go all in at once instead of taking a cautious approach.
Rin is a slim, short woman; easily recognizable by her pale skin and bandaged appendages. Like the majority of Kirigakure shinobi, her outfit consists of several shades of blue. Her large blade, Usui, can typically be found in it's sheath on her back.
Having almost complete mastery of Suiton ninjutsu and the Hydrification Technique, Rin has incorporated the two with her advanced chakra nature. From this, she has created Hyōtai, or Ice Body. Similar to the Hydrification Technique in that she can "freeze" any part of her body at will, while still allowing movement. If well hydrated, it can be used similarly to Kaguya bone techniques in that any part of her body can become a sharp weapon meant to impale and maim.
Rin is also mildly proficient in Kenjutsu, but continues to train day and night in order to improve this skill.
Rin has been in possession of a great sword named Usui, or Rain Water, since her time as a Genin. A gift from her father, the blade is specifically designed to be handled by a Hōzuki. Rin can manipulate the blade into a multitude of shapes, similar to how she can change her own body composition with the Hydrification Technique. However, it's usual appearance is a simple, large blade with serrated edges.
