Yasaka Uchiha (うちは八坂, Uchiha Yasaka) is a shinobi of Amegakure, as well as a missing-nin from Kumogakure. He originally served in the latter of the two as a Jōnin before defecting to pursue his own desires. A chain of events led him to join Amegakure, where he was chosen to become a member of the Akatsuki, an organization within the village which deals with external affairs.

Background[]

Early Life[]

This section is currently undergoing revisions.

Personality[]

As a child, Yasaka was very carefree and kind person. He rarely expressed any negative thoughts or behaviors, and would always try to look at the brighter side of something through an optimistic mindset. He was rather affectionate as well, often hugging friends and family members when overjoyed, and yet, he was sensitive to insults. Gentleness and politeness were the traits which primarily defined Yasaka, making him the ideal child for some. In addition, he would never attempt to hurt another in any way, effectively making him a pacifist at the time. Overall, it would be accurate to say that he always put the well being of others before that of himself. This state of mind did not last forever, due to continued criticism from his father, who disapproved of his passiveness, and criticized him often for it by stating that he was a "failure as a man"; it is likely that the man disapproved of Yasaka's effeminacy in particular.

However, upon the awakening of his Sharingan, the Uchiha clan's "Curse of Hatred" began to affect Yasaka to a much greater extent than anything else could at the time, causing him to become more cynical and slightly short-tempered as a result. After the awakening of his Mangekyō Sharingan and the furthering of the Curse of Hatred, Yasaka was noted to have exhibited some excessively authoritarian beliefs about the way the world should be, most of which being rather easy to relate to a stereotypical dictator's mind. In his eyes, civilization was not capable of peace among itself as long as it existed in the form of several separate villages. To remedy this problem, he hoped to do whatever he could to unite the shinobi world into one land with a sole autocratic leader, through force if necessary. These opinions drove him as far as to kill his brother Karōshi for disagreeing with him; a relatively recent event. Yasaka has since dropped this ideology, making it clear that he has progressed as a thinker, becoming much more kind and open in the process.

Yasaka Staring

Yasaka's usual stern expression.

Nowadays, Yasaka is confident and calculated both on the battlefield and during everyday life, and is an overall very intelligent individual. He is quite level-headed, always remaining focused on the task at hand and never allowing trivial matters to disrupt him, only remaining composed and stern; even when the possibility of death is present. However, he is not always serious and stern, and has been shown to possess a sense of humor, albeit one which some may consider to be a bit harsh. It is not uncommon for him to joke around and toy with his opponents in a fight when he can, approaching it much like a game with a sarcastic, and sometimes dark approach in the vein of black humor. On the other hand, he has little tolerance for childish or immature remarks, viewing them as.

Yasaka could be considered a strict perfectionist, and perhaps even slightly narcissistic in some ways. Still hanging on to remnant parts of Arienai's philosophy, one of his main flaws is that he is a control-freak, believing that his actions are for the greater good of the world, and could rarely ever result in misfortune. While this has led to some rather noble traits such as his practically unbreakable determination and his skill as a strategist, Yasaka's stubborn desire to achieve his goals has led to him becoming increasingly manipulative of others. Although he does not actually disregard their own feelings and general well-being, he is rather reluctant to allow loss to himself in their place when a matter of high risk arises. Yasaka views betrayal of his trust as a serious matter, and becomes easily perturbed by such acts. He wouldn't hesitate to verbally or physically attack anyone whom he has enough evidence to mark as a traitor, and is capable of being rather blunt and rude to people if he desires to be, as well as completely apathetic and "brutally honest" towards them. On the other hand, he is capable of being equally supportive and positive when needed to be, possessing a softer side that resembles the personality of his younger-self. He is also a music lover, and tends to hum to himself often when at peace.

Appearance[]

Yasaka is a young male of pale complexion with blue eyes and long black hair, which is normally kept loose and allowed to drape down to his shoulders. He can be described as quite androgynous, making it somewhat difficult to discern his gender at first glance. As a result, he has been easily mistaken for a female on most occasions by others due to a combination of factors. He is noticeably shorter in height for a male and possesses a somewhat feminine figure (i.e. wider hips, narrower shoulders, etc.) compared to other men. He usually wears black eyeliner and sometimes wears a deep blue shade of eyeshadow as well, furthering this ambiguity. He wears one of the Akatsuki's trademark rings on his right index finger. It is red, and has the kanji "朱" (Shu, literally meaning "vermilion," "scarlet") printed upon it; this is the only Akatsuki-related item which he wears at all times.

Abilities[]

Over the years, Yasaka's determination and talents have allowed him to become an individual worthy of recognition. Although often taken lightly due to his unthreatening appearance, Yasaka had always been noted by his peers as a cunning and competent individual. Impressing both his instructors and his fellow students alike from a young age, the shinobi went on to graduate from the program in a quick seven months to be promoted to a Genin and reached later ranks ahead of the average age, becoming a Jōnin in his late teenage years. As Yasaka's abilities improved and his life underwent many twists, the shinobi Arienai took him under his wing, training the boy many of the techniques and fighting styles which would eventually prove essential to him.

By the age of 17, Yasaka was a battle-hardened shinobi with a diverse skillset. Nothing short of a genius, he continued to impress others as he and Arienai eliminated what remained of Jakazan Owari. After forming a partnership with Kamaitachi Kaguya, Yasaka experienced significant growth within a relatively short window of time—the Kaguya in question remarcked that the younger shinobi had eclipsed him completely. Later on, after advancing his eyes to the furthest point possible following the transplant of Devatva's eyes, he was accepted as a member of the Akatsuki, an organisation based in Amegakure.

Ninjutsu[]

Bukijutsu[]

Yasaka's prowess using ninja tools is recognizable as being on a remarkable level. From setting up well-placed traps to fighting in the heat of direct combat, he has shown to be able to use tools tactically and very effectively. The weapons which he uses the most often are senbon; he has stated that they accommodate his preferred methods of combat well, going especially well with his Wind Release affinity. When using wire strings, his bukijutsu prowess truly shines; he may cleverly manipulate weapons in midair to form deadly maneuvers, and may even augment the potential of his Fire Release techniques by guiding them along the wires to a specific target. Yasaka will sometimes use the gunbai usually worn on his back in battle, both to shield against minor attacks, and to launch his own Wind Release techniques. He is capable of using some of the hiden techniques of the Uchiha clan, such as the Uchiha Style Counter to work towards his advantage both offensively and defensively.

Kenjutsu[]
Chakra Disruption Blades

Chakra disruption blades.

Since his days as a student of Kumogakure's academy, Yasaka has displayed a high level of skill as a swordsman. As kenjutsu is an encouraged art in the village, it was only natural for him to become one, though it quickly became clear to others that he wasn't simply "average". When he later stole his father's nodachi Hasamibujin, Arienai saw that it was fitting for him to learn kenjutsu, and arranged for his subordinates to train with him often. Yasaka was never bested by a single one of them, eventually becoming adept in Iaidō during the constant traveling required of him by Arienai. It is unknown if Yasaka has ever traveled to the Land of Iron, however.

Yasaka has made a slight habit of primarily utilizing a reverse grip while dual-wielding blades, although it could also be considered a part of his own personal style, which takes after his taijutsu style as well. His strikes can be blindingly fast at times from the perspective of those with normal eyes, leaving little time for one to evade or counter them. He is also quite fond of channeling his wind chakra down the length of the blades, increasing their cutting power dramatically and his effectiveness in close combat as a result. Also noteworthy, upon awakening the Rinnegan, Yasaka began to use Chakra Disruption Blades in battle. These blades disrupt the chakra of their victim, rendering them incapable of moving. When a victim is stabbed by the blades, the Rinnegan appears in their mind, implying that the user has some degree of influence over them. The blades are very sharp, enough to be able to pierce the skin of Sage Mode users. Alhough the blades are made from durable material, they can be broken with enough strength.

Sōjutsu[]

While less pronounced than his kenjutsu skills, Yasaka has shown himself to be capable of utilizing a spear effectively in a fight. Only relying on these skills when forced to attack from a slightly further range, or when kenjutsu would simply be at a severe disadvantage, it is rare for him to actually use this art. Due to this, his abilities as a spearman are only slightly above average.

Summoning Technique[]

Although unconfirmed, there is enough information to assume that Yasaka was first taught how to use the Summoning Technique by Arienai early on in their training together. Eventually going on to make good use of it, he later signed a blood contract that would enable him to summon forth vultures to battle alongside him. These avian companions may range from the size of one's hand to a massive scale large enough for several people to stand on. He commonly uses them to perform aerial attacks from above, usually with projectiles empowered by Wind Release.

When Yasaka first obtained the contract, he was only able to summon smaller vultures, which were useful for sending messages or diversifying his genjutsu techniques. As he trained his chakra control, his capabilities rose as well, and larger vultures such as those usable in combat became his trusted allies as well. Holding a deep friendship with each of his summons, Yasaka and the intelligent birds collaborate on strategies and techniques in battle often.

After gaining access to the abilities of the Animal Path, Yasaka also obtained the ability to summon a variety of other creatures without the need of a blood sacrifice of hand seals. These creatures have a shared field of vision with him, though do not seem to be truly sentient in comparison to the vultures.

Nature Transformation[]

Over the course of his life so far, Yasaka has become proficient in several different elements. This has allowed him to use a large number of techniques, and with his Sharingan's technique copying abilities as well as his Rinnegan to thank, they span through five of the basic chakra natures. Due to his Uchiha heritage, Yasaka has a natural affinity for Fire Release, which he is a master of today. After later discovering that he could also use Wind Release, and eventually Water Release, his arsenal became rather varied, providing him with what he needed to take on many different types of opponents. He may also form hand seals at speeds very difficult to follow for others.

Great Fire Annihilation

Yasaka's level of Fire Release.

Yasaka was only 6 years old, and still in his fifth month of teachings in the academy when his affinity towards Fire Release was discovered. From this it could be inferred that his skills with this specific nature are stronger than they are in his other usable ones, as he became capable of using techniques far above his level by the time he graduated, such as Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Technique. Because it was unusual for freshly-promoted Genin to be able to use elemental techniques so early on, Yasaka surprised many with his growth rate. As his chakra control and stamina developed, this growth rate would quicken; around the time he was assigned the rank of Chūnin, his Fire Release skills progressed to the point where he could easily produce Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique. With Arienai's training, the creation of even stronger techniques such as Fire Release: Glare of the Masked Messiah established Yasaka as an expert of the chakra nature. He would use it to increase the deadliness of his weapons as well, though overall, it remains his favored method of long-ranged combat.

A few years after he started using Fire Release, his abilities to use Water Release and Wind Release were also discovered. Yasaka first used the latter of the two at age 10, though he lack the proper training in order to use it offensively. It was only until his first encounter with Arienai that he could even properly assault a foe with jutsu such as Wind Release: Vacuum Serial Waves, though this limit was surpassed remarkably fast. He would begin to channel Wind Release chakra through the length of his weapons, even using it to propel himself at moderately high speeds. When Yasaka became a Jōnin, his horizons broadened, allowing him to use the nature to a greater extent in mid-ranged combat. Although he is no master of Wind Release, he could be considered a very skilled user.

When Arienai officially began to train him, his third natural affinity, Water Release, became usable. He has not been witnessed attacking with it as often as the others, preferring to use it as a more supplementary option, one example being the Hiding in Mist Technique. However, this is not the full extent of his ability to use Water Release, as seen by his ability to use Water Release: Great Waterfall Technique, which is one of his higher-end techniques from this element. Through various battles, Yasaka has also been given the opportunities to copy Lightning Release and Earth Release techniques, the latter being a result of an encounter and a short fight with a shinobi named Rikiryou; he later gained the ability to independently use Earth Release after he gained the access to Wood Release; Lightning Release came with the awakening of his Rinnegan after Kamaitachi began training him to use it. Along with it was Yin–Yang Release, which he has yet to put to good use.

Blaze Release Ninigi

Yasaka using Blaze Release: Kagutsuchi in the form of a bow.

After unlocking his Mangekyo Sharingan, Yasaka gained access to a more advanced form of Fire Release known as Blaze Release. It allows him to further manipulate the inextinguishable black flames of Amaterasu in order to use them more tactically. He may apply Shape Transformation to them with Blaze Release: Kagutsuchi to form formidable defenses, or incredibly useful, though just more draining offensive techniques such as Blaze Release: Ōkuninshi, which has been regarded as a jutsu he admired so much that he often referred to it as a "Wise Man's Amaterasu". After advancing his eyes into the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, Yasaka gained an even greater degree of control over this chakra nature.

Taijutsu[]

While his body is much more fragile than the physiques of most others, and generally unsuited for Taijutsu and close combat, Yasaka has continuously trained for years in the art due to his determination to succeed. His high speed, agility, and flexibility have allowed him to perform some rather unorthodox, yet deadly maneuvers; those without the Sharingan would have slight difficulty keeping up with his movements.

However, his endurance and physical stamina are still lacking. This is a major hindrance to him, as a hard blow would take more out of him than it normally would for others. This has forced Yasaka to rely more on evasion and his alert reflexes than blocking or intercepting most attacks. As his physical strength also leaves much to be desired, Yasaka is incapable of truly dealing the devastating blows commonly associated with techniques such as the Strong Fist.

Dōjutsu[]

Sharingan[]

As a distantly-related member of the Uchiha Clan, Yasaka possesses the ability to activate an infamous dōjutsu known across the shinobi world, the Sharingan. He had awakened it during a particularly stressful mission around the time he was promoted to Chūnin at the age of 12. Initially, he had one tomoe in each eye. However, he would increase it to two with continued training, and eventually three during a battle with his father, Sawaru. Having brought his Sharingan to full maturity at that point, he would become capable of using each of the abilities normally granted to one with it. These included analyzing the movements of an opponent to the point where their next move could be predicted instantaneously, copying a witnessed technique, and launching ocular genjutsu.

Due to the amount of time in which he constantly trained his eyes, the Sharingan has a very small effect on his chakra levels, to the point where it could be considered negligible. This remains true, even in long and tedious fights against multiple opponents. He dislikes relying too much on the Sharingan, but he has been witnessed having it active constantly on rare occasions. His genjutsu abilities using the Sharingan have been noted to be on a high-level, allowing him to temporarily hypnotize someone, paralyze a foe, or replay his own memories to another.

Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan[]

Yasaka originally awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan shortly after the battle with Sawaru, where he witnessed the man slay Etsuko Uchiha and his mother only for him to slay his father seconds after. Yasaka's eyes took on a pattern consisting of a black pinwheel with three points, surrounded by three oval-like shapes which were all connected by a very thin black ring. Customary of the dōjutsu, Yasaka's Mangekyō Sharingan damaged and gradually reduced his eyesight by a small amount every time he used it, causing him to experience great pain and extreme fatigue as well as causing eye bleeding with each use. Eventually, he went blind altogether. However, with the eyes of an Uchiha simply referred to as "Devatva" (provided by Kamaitachi), Yasaka was able to receive a suitable transplant as a cure for his blindness. Once this man's eyes were in place, Yasaka's eyes evolved into the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.

Living Corpse Reincarnation (Yasaka)

Yasaka's original Susanoo.

Each eye of his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan contains a specific technique. The first of Yasaka's granted abilities is Tsukuyomi, which is given to him by the left eye. Requiring eye contact with the desired target to function, it is a very powerful genjutsu which is capable of trapping an opponent within an illusion that Yasaka may freely control. The full extent of his manipulation over the illusion is said to allow him to make it seem like days in an opponent's mind, while the torturous event would have only been a single moment in reality. By the time Tsukuyomi ends, it's victim is usually left in a state of exhaustion, or unconsciousness. The ability granted to Yasaka through his right eye is Amaterasu, a technique that allows him to incinerate anything within his direct line of sight with inextinguishable black flames; they are said to be able to burn anything, including fire itself. Using the Blaze Release chakra nature, Yasaka may further manipulate these flames, or extinguish them at will. Although the use of both of these techniques initially had a great strain on him, after gaining new eyes, the backlash on his chakra was reduced, and he gained a greater degree of control over Amaterasu in particular.

The final technique granted to him by his Mangekyō Sharingan is Susanoo, the "Tempestuous God of Valour" (勇武の荒神, Yūbu no Aragami), which takes root in both of his eyes. Through it's use, he may form a large ethereal warrior around him, serving as an immensely durable defense. Susanoo's initial stage consists of a large skeletal entity surrounded by a blueish-grey aura, with the next being one in which the skeletal structure is covered in a series of muscle fibers, giving it the appearance of a wraith-like humanoid. Finally, Yasaka's Susanoo is covered in armor which takes the form of of several feathers, making it seem much like a tengu; it possesses three arms, a pair of wings, and even a beak-like mask. Separate parts of it, such as it's ribcage, may also be formed on their own at once; Yasaka may even form several pairs of arms on their own.

Using it as a catalyst, Yasaka can also use a technique (which he ironically shares a name with), Yasaka Magatama, a long-ranged attack that ends with a rather large explosion upon contact with something. Susanoo had the greatest strain on him of the three techniques granted to him by his Mangekyō Sharingan, as it's overuse caused him to violently cough up blood on one occasion. However, like it's two parent techniques, Yasaka gained greater control of Susanoo once he received Devatva's eyes. Paired with Amaterasu, his improved Susanoo allowed him access to much stronger techniques, such as Blaze Release: Yasaka Magatama.

Rinnegan[]

YasakaRinnegan

Yasaka displaying his Rinnegan.

Because he possessed the eyes of Devatva and Senju genes, Yasaka was able to advance his eyes from the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan to the legendary Rinnegan, with some aid from Kamaitachi Kaguya. This dōjutsu was originally possessed by the Sage of the Six Paths, the world's first shinobi, and the founder of modern ninjutsu. Because of this, he gained access to all five basic nature transformations, as well as Yin–Yang Release. Similar to the other great dōjutsu, the Rinnegan bestowed him with enhanced vision, allowing him to see chakra and otherwise invisible barrier techniques.

Among the many abilities granted to Yasaka by the Rinnegan were a selection of the six "paths". However, due to him lacking the experience necessary to use all six, he is currently able to use only four.

Main article: Yasaka's Deva Path
  • The Deva Path (天道, Tendō), which grants the user the ability to manipulate attractive and repulsive forces with objects and people. These gravity manipulating techniques, however, cannot be performed in rapid succession; the amount of time required to recharge after use varies depending on the scale of the technique used. The Deva Path also grants another ability: Chibaku Tensei which allows the user to create a huge makeshift terrestrial body from all the surrounding matter that is attracted to a black sphere released by this technique.
Main article: Yasaka's Naraka Path
  • The Naraka Path (地獄道, Jigokudō), which grants the user two main abilities: interrogation and restoration, by using the King of Hell, which the Naraka path makes heavy use of. The King of Hell is a large head which sprouts out of the ground surrounded by purple flames. It also possesses the Rinnegan as well as the shared field of vision along with the other summons.
Main article: Yasaka's Animal Path
  • The Animal Path (畜生道, Chikushōdō) grants Yasaka the ability of summoning various animals and creatures to aid him in battle. Worthy of note, creatures summoned through the Animal Path require no blood sacrifice or hand seals to be invoked. With the Animal Path he can also summon people, which is the only case where hand signs are required. Tactics wise, the Animal Path's primary role in battle appears to consist on overwhelming multiple opponents with a barrage of summons. The Animal Path is the one used most often by Yasaka for infiltration, since it may simply summon the others once it has reached the desired point.
Main article: Yasaka's Preta Path
  • The Preta Path (餓鬼道, Gakidō) grants the user the ability to absorb an infinite amount of chakra in any form using the Blocking Technique Absorption Seal. This ability is primarily defensive in nature as it is capable of absorbing most ninjutsu-based techniques, thereby nullifying their effects. This technique can also take the form of a barrier around the user's entire body, allowing them to absorb attacks from all directions. In addition to this, the Preta Path is able to absorb chakra from an individual through physical contact.

Yasaka is capable of channeling these path-derived abilities through separate bodies which act as proxies through the technique known as the Six Paths of Pain; it allows Yasaka to control these separate bodies as though they were his own. Each of them are reanimated corpses that are both kept mobile by and make use of Yasaka's own chakra. By using these bodies for combat rather than himself, Yasaka may avoid the risk of being killed easier in battle by a stronger opponent. As Yasaka's vision is linked with the bodies, he essentially has multiple fields of vision, making it exponentially harder for enemies to attack any of the bodies, or Yasaka himself without being seen. Yasaka's vision is also linked with the various creatures he summons, which also possess the Rinnegan. All of the bodies are also unable to feel physical pain, as they are merely manipulated corpses. While controlling the Path bodies, Yasaka still regards them as separate entities from himself, mainly due to the fact that each of the bodies used once belonged to past opponents who had earned his respect while alive.

Chakra Prowess[]

Yasaka is physically weaker than most. However, like most Uchihas, Yasaka still possesses rather powerful chakra levels. His reserves are very large, due to him having put constant effort into strengthening himself in order to overcome his weaknesses, and his Senju heritage does provide him with increased stamina and vitality; this extent increased slightly upon the awakening of his Wood Release abilities. Not only are his reserves strong, but he is also sensitive to other sources of chakra, making him an exceptional Sensor-nin. In the academy, instructors mentioned that his chakra control was far above what was expected of an academy student, due to his ability to use Fire Release so early on. His reserves would continue to grow with age, eventually allowing him to use several rather taxing techniques in succession before showing signs of fatigue. Due to extensive training of his Sharingan, Yasaka may keep it active for long periods of time if desired, even near-constantly at times.

Intelligence[]

Yasaka's most reliable ability would be his quick thought process, as he has proven to be very analytical and perceptive, both in and out of combat. While in the academy, he earned near-perfect scores, signifying his status as a genius shinobi. On one occasion in particular, with nothing more than a small amount of information about a technique and the context of the battle, he figured out it's inner workings and quickly outsmarted his opponent. He is a very good manipulator, able to persuade or pressure others into doing the tasks he desires of them; one may infer that he is a good liar as well. Remaining calm most of the time, Yasaka always thinks out the circumstances of a situation before acting. He is an adept leader and a well-versed strategist, making sure to pay attention to every single detail of an opponent's moves and techniques to develop a suitable countering tactic. The raw knowledge gained from his time as Arienai's apprentice, combined with the information looted from Jakazan Owari, both have set Yasaka on the path to becoming a walking library as well, though he is not lacking as a deep thinker either.

Other Skills[]

Yasaka has displayed some knowledge in fūinjutsu, having developed a method allowing him to implant Tsukuyomi into the Sharingan of another person, and having learned a similar method for Amaterasu. Yasaka has also trained his hearing to an enhanced level, allowing him to use Silent Killing, a fighting style based purely on navigating using sound. More recently, his training with Kamaitachi has resulted in him being gifted with some skill in barrier techniques.
