The old master known as Yenma has been enjoying a quiet life in the Land of Whirlpools for some time now. A rather private man, he has allowed much of his past to remain behind him. However, sources have been able to confirm the following information.
It is notably documented that Yenma never appears to age. At some point in the distant past he was attacked by a member of a mysterious clan that possessed a frightening ability. Because of the nature of this terrifying technique, which is rumored to be transmittable through blood, Yenma developed the ability to use it himself.
Realizing his potential, the Cult of Jashin took an interest in Yenma. The Pontifex Caedis of the time, Bocchiere, befriended Yenma and brought him into their fold. It is rumored that after Yenma had developed considerable power, Bocchiere coerced his pupil into joining his organization, The Akatsuki. Following this, Yenma may have become a ring-bearing member ranked beneath only Bocchiere himself and operated as an S-Class criminal alongside his accomplice, Sabumaru. Unfortunately, any information about Yenma's possible criminal career is conjecture.
If Yenma was ever a member of The Akatsuki, he is now defected. It is known that for a brief time Yenma was the jinchūriki of the bijū Matatabi. Those that believe Yenma to be a former member of The Akatsuki suspect Yenma stole the Nibi upon his departure and that eventually Bocchiere caught up with Yenma to steal the beast back, nearly killing Yenma in the process.
Soon after, Yenma turned up in the Land of Whirlpools, gravely injured. After much rest, healing, and physical therapy, Yenma eventually recovered. He chose to remain there afterward, enjoying a long, pleasant retirement of sorts. This continued until Keitō Uzumaki asked Yenma to take up the post of Director of Education at the Uzushiogakure Education Center.
Since taking up residence in Uzushiogakure, Yenma has mostly focused on his work and his personal relationships.
Appearance
Yenma is a tall and thin person with fair skin. His hair is black and bronze. He has slate grey eyes. He has six piercings along the back helix and two through the rook of his left ear, as well as one through the left portion of his lower lip, all of which bear small hoops of a dark metal that looks as much like stone as it does steel. He also wears a thin chain of the same material around his neck.
Yenma is often seen wearing plain black boots and black leather trousers that appear to be handmade. Additionally, he typically sports a long-sleeve, grey cloth shirt and a collared, knee-length black jacket.
Yenma bears a long, thin Ōdachi sheathed at his left side, hidden under his coat, rumored to have forged by his former accomplice, Sabumaru. Sometimes Yenma conceals the blade further by moving it into his Kamui's Dimension.
Yenma has focused on acquiring and developing skills related to physical strength and manipulation, rather than focusing on formal, mental, or spiritual techniques. Thus his repertoire of these skills includes: Sakon and Ukon's Kekkei Genkai, Shikotsumyaku, and Senketsumyaku; several Hiden like Bocchiere's Incineration Technique, the Iburi's Smoke Transformation and his own Black Smoke Transformation Technique adaption, the Hōzuki's Hydrification Technique, and the Sand Body and Mud Body Technique; these are bolstered further by jutsu like Soft Physique Modification, Water Replacement, and the Assimilate All Creation Technique.
Ever since he hosted Matatabi, the fire of Yenma's Katon techniques has been blue.
